The Ballyboughal Hedgerow Society was founded in 1998 by Ann Lynch in response to hedges being removed in many fields due to intensive agriculture. The whole character of our rural landscape was disappearing.

Our mission is to conserve and maintain Ireland’s ‘living boundaries’ by informing the public about how amazing they are for biodiversity.

We hold conferences, kid’s art events, historical walks and festivals based around hedges, with speakers such as Donal Synott (former Director of the National Botanic Gardens), Dick Warner, Éanna Ní Lamhna, and archaeologists Dr Geraldine Stout and Margaret McCurtain.  See our upcoming events

We are funded by The Heritage Council, Fingal County Council, the North Dublin Leader, and the wonderful supporters who come to our events.

Our committee is Stephen and Darren who advise us on Owl and Bat research and nesting boxes; Amy who coordinates our art events; Renée is our botanic advisor; Ann, our secretary; Emily, our treasurer; and Ken, our chairman.
