Sunday wildflower walks

The National Parks and Wildlife Service has just awarded Ballyboughal Hedgerow 600 Euros to record Wildflowers along the hedgerow network in the parishes of Ballyboughall and Naul.
Please join us on our weekly recording walks meeting at OConnors Pub at 2.00 on Sundays.
We hope to record Orchids as well as other champion ‘WeedFlowers‘ during our research over the summer. Results will be published in October . Email lynchjustice@gmail for more info

Events Biodiversity Week May 2023

On Sunday 14th in Mainscourt Ballyboughal and in Naul on 18th May we found 24 different wild WeedFlowers in bloom NOT including wild Grasses! Especially important is Spear Thistle- ranked in 6th place among The Top Ten nectar producers for pollinators. Also found were
Herb Bennet (Geum), Cow Parsley (for Orange Tip butterflies), Hawksbeard, Black Medick, Purple Vetch, Bush Vetch, Primroses, Speedwell, Wild Garlic, Dandelions,, Silverweed (Cinquefoil), Weeping Sedge (Carex pendula), Dead Nettle, Clover, Cleavers (Garbhlus), Nettles, Wild Mustard, Charlock, Sow Thistle, Fumitory, Daisy, Burdock, Stellaria.

April planting at Ballyboughal Bridge Nature Reserve

Our April planting at Ballyboughal Bridge Nature Reserve was attended by local residents, Fr Derek and his dog Sheba and local children. The children did geometric Art on stones to mark the trees
We planted ten trees including Willow, Crab Apple and Birch.
In March we also distributed 220 trees to local farmers and residents from Cornstown House, Bettyville, Parnellstown, and Drishogue.
Thank you to Trees on the land and Woodland Trust Northern Ireland for donating trees
